Tales From The Allegheny Foothills - Lesson Plan 1

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to trace the development of the Automobile in America.

  2. Students will be able to show how the Automobile changed numerous phases of American society from travel mores.

  3. Students will be able to explain how the Automobile was made available to the average American family.

  4. Students will be able to show how the Automobile affected rural areas such as Bedford County or your local area.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

  1. Direct students to Tales From the Allegheny Foothills:
        Volume 1, Chapter 16     Horseless Carriages
        Volume 1, Chapter 17     Model 'T' Ford

  2. Assign students articles to read on how the Model ‘T’ Ford was put into mass production by Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company.

  3. Students will search the Internet for the information on Henry Ford’s River Plant, mass production and interchangeable parts.

  4. Students will research and list advancements in Automobiles from the early years to the present.

  5. Students will write a narrative prompt on their family’s first experience with the Model 'T' Ford or write about their family’s first automobile.
